Shadow - My Dog
Today I experienced one of the most shocking - and disheartening things. Today my dog, an outdoors black lab/mixbreed, began experiencing signs of “lethargic” (aka “dumb”) rabies. Another thought that occurred to me is that we recently (as in 2 days ago) bought Old Roy dog food, and I thought he might’ve been poisoned because of the recall (http://www.kake.com/home/headlines/6904897.html).
However, my worry increased as it got cold outside and we brought him in. A few minutes later, the floor was covered in blood, and upon examination he seems to be bleeding from his hind quarters, under his leg. We recently had some rats in the shed, and I’m thinking that they might’ve bitten him.
Reading up on rabies (http://www.healthscout.com/ency/322/738/main.html), I was scared he might have the dumb version, which says the animal may die within 3 days. I’m hoping that the vet will be able to help him… He is drooling pretty bad, but instead of being hostile, he is the opposite… he never moves, and when he does, he has his tail between his legs and looks extremely depressed.
Browsing the net, there seems to be no post-exposure cure for animals, and I’m beginning to panic. One site said the only cure was to shoot the animal in question.
Aww I hope he gets better.
Just two days ago he was running free and wild as ever, and now, a mere 8 hours after noticing a problem, he is no longer with us. He died inside the house at the back door, after convulsing violently for a few seconds.
I feel so bad that I haven’t given him much attention lately for being busy this past year… but now I must move on. My first and only pet is no longer with me. It brings a tear to my eyes to think I’ll never laugh about him howling a dirge at the trains as they go by or brag to my friends about how crazy he can be or how high he could jump when excited.
My small back yard and merry heart just got more empty.
The fucking asshole posers, what kind of a animal abuse and neglect institution is the Vet of demopolis running? I have nothing but hate for the self-proclaimed animal lovers therein.
If you live in the greater Deompolis area, let this be a warning that the people here don’t give a collective flying fuck whether your animal lives or dies. Even without the hours of researching I did I knew better than them that something was DEFINITELY wrong.
Sure, my dog had a reputation there, we had to drug him up to bring him, but what is that to them? We drug him up and bring him in? No, they brushed us off and said it was nothing. Now my dog is dead. Thanks to uncaring sons of bitches down at the Demopolis Veterinary center.
Start boycott NOW of Old Roy dog food brand and Demop Vet Clinic.

Sounds like it was. He must have had a severe case, because he died less than 48 hours after showing symptoms. All I can think is that it was a mix of that and something else. Oh well, it’s over now.

I know Precious started going blind and having seizures right before she died.
She couldnt even hold herself up.
When I got off from work I wanted to hold her so bad but I couldnt because she had throw up and stuff all over her and I was still pregnant so if I would have touched her it could have hurt Mischa.
